Conscious breathing is something I keep referring to and writing about and if you do nothing but this as your spiritual practise, you will be doing a brilliant practice!

Here’s how:

1. find a quiet place where you will be undisturbed

2. set an alarm for three minutes so that you can completely let go and not worry about the time

3. close your eyes and bring your attention on your breathing

4. breathe in for the count of 4, pulling air to  your tummy so that it expands, hold it for 2 seconds, and then softly exhale for the count of 6, hold it out for 2  seconds.

5. Repeat this breathing until your alarm clock goes.

The body infuses your goals with energy

Affirmations, visualisations and right behaviour are all good and well but unless you feel the thing you want in your body, it won’t come into your world.

The body is the mouth piece of the unconscious. Be wise. Listen to it. When the body resonates with your life goals and desires, you are aligned to the creative power of the universe. It becomes easy. When the body resonates with something else, ie what you might NOT want, that will bring confusion, discomfort and what you consider as failure.

‘There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophies.’  Fredrich Nietzche

So what do we do if we realise that our outer efforts are in conflict with some inner process, or feeling? The answer is simple.  Use the body to release the conflicting part. Use the body to bring about the healing. Use the body to inform.  Use the body.

The body has infinite wisdom and power

There are 6 trillion chemical reactions in the human body every second, and each cell has its own intelligence which governs what happens in that cell. But did you know that each cell communicates with other cells? In fact each cell knows what every other cell in the body is doing.  And even more astounding is how each cell tracks everything that is happening to every other cell in the body, including the 6 trillion biochemical processes that are happening to that cell each moment.

Moreover this overlighting body intelligence monitors what is happening outside itself too.  Your body keep track of the sun, so that it can, for instance, secrete different chemicals in the day and different ones at night. One of those chemical changes is the secretion of melatonin which helps you go to sleep at night.

Imagine if the body didn’t monitor the sun and started pumping out melatonin during the day as you are driving your car! Oops.  Not good.  You rely on this amazing intelligence and ability to keep operating properly.  Real success requires you to consciously work with this intelligence to achieve your life purpose. Dr David Hawkins says in his book Power vs. Force that the mind uses the body to think. Remember this fact. This realisation will empower you.

The body influences the universal energy field

We live in a big ocean of energy, and your energy field, the one held by and generated through your body, is forever interacting with that ocean. You, through you body, have the ability to influence the energy field of all of life, sending and receiving vibrations that affect, no, create, your very circumstances.  What you do with your body, counts big time.  Rumi says it like this: No prayer is complete without presence.

So much to learn about this. I recommend an excellent movie by Gregg Braden on YOU Tube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP_JXkh9m-A

Letting People Be

For so many years I held the belief that the right thing for me to do was to help others find fixes and solutions to their problems, especially moments of sadness or unhappiness. It’s a difficult thing to just be when those you love seem to be upset or suffering.

However during my recent four year sabbatical I started to realise how fundamentally flawed this fix people notion is, and decided to drop it. It’s been a process and I’m not always successful. Sometimes I fall back into fix it mode, but more and more I am able to sit with the heart and soul of the situation and let it be, more importantly, let others be.

Here’s a great story of a little boy who did this brilliantly (source unknown):

A four year old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbour, the little boy said, ‘Nothing, I just helped him cry’.

The Importance of Acknowledging all of Yourself

The search for our Soul is actually the search for wholeness. All too often people walk around with the notion of their Soul as Love and Light, not knowing that the energy stream of their Soul contains more than that.

Yesterday I ran a workshop to help people step into their power and align with their Soul.  In the afternoon I asked participants to name the qualities that define who they are at the highest level. Ideas such as healer, compassionate, teacher, light, joy were named. No one had put down such qualities as moody, selfish, aggressive, sexual etc.

I asked them to go back to the drawing board and list those ‘dark’ aspects of themselves too, and then talk about them with someone in the room.  Well! the energy and noise level in the room instantly rose, not a little bit, but by a gigantic jump!  There was suddenly a life force and presence in the room that hadn’t been there before.

This  shows how when we embrace the all of ourselves,  we say YES to a full flow of Life Force – and open up to  a full connection our Soul. Many people desire more energy, power and spiritual guidance  all the while trying to hide their dark side. Ironically the one thing that they don’t want to work with, is the one thing that holds the answer.

I am not suggesting that you actively create or desire ‘bad’ aspects to be active in your personality. The work of raising consciousness is the work of bringing a higher vibration to these very aspects. However if they are stashed away in the cupboard, hidden and sublimated, how could they possibly be transformed?

And, there is a part of us that belongs to the animal kingdom. Fact. We are more enabled if we stand in the place of acknowledging and owning this truth so we can consciously work with it. It’s when these aspects are denied that such energies can become corrupt, and end up being expressed in ways that are simply not ok.

This is a thorny issue. Even as I write I can hear a million reason why not to put these ideas on paper. Testimony to how conditioned we are not to look at this subject. However I am convinced that Soul asks this of us. When our willingness to see the totality of ourselves is held in the chamber of an open and loving heart space, then it becomes safe one for all.  And it’s important to know that the acknowledgement of our ‘dark stuff’ is not the same as acting on it. We can see it, own it and feel the energy of it. But directing it into the outside world towards people and circumstances can be pure projection and yet another form of denial.

I am a naturally aggressive person. Five years of living in a spiritual community turned into five years of trying to keep that natural aggression hidden. What happened? Not only did I a loose a vital and necessary part of myself, but I opened the door to illness. Only when I stood in my centre and welcomed the fact that my natural aggression is a juicy gift given me to help me fulfil my life’s calling, did I turn the health corner.

So here’s an invitation. Open your heart to hold the all of yourself. Welcome back the real you so you may stand in the full flow of Life and make a deep connection with your Soul, and success!
